Week One Contest!!

This week I am really excited to announce a movie themed contest for Wind Dancer!! I imagine most writers would be thrilled to see their stories made into movies and I am no exception! I think my books would make great period pieces, especially Wind Dancer as it has such a strong The Last of the Mohicans feel to it. The winner will receive a The Last of the Mohicans DVD and a Pride and Prejudice DVD along with the signed copy of Wind Dancer.

All you have to do is pick an actress and actor who you think would be ideal to play Samuel and Isabelle in a movie. If you haven't read the book yet, you can go to my website and read a little about the characters, see the book trailer and even read the first chapter. This should give you enough of a feel for them that you could choose the actors. Just comment with your choices on this blog entry and my three judges (see next entry) will decide which one they think is most fitting!
I will announce the winner next Monday along with the details of next week's contest. Have fun with it! I can't wait to hear your ideas!!

What fun, Jamie! Let's see. For Isabelle: how about Catherine Zeta Jones? Only you need a younger counterpart. Mandy Moore isn't quite right. I don't watch enough movies to know someone who looks like Zeta Jones but is younger. And for the hero, Matt Damon. Sounds like a 1700s Jason Bourne :-)

Jamie,
It's so strange that you mention your book as a movie, because a co-worker and I have been talking about the fact that Wind Dancer would make a great movie! It was wonderful, all of your books have been great and you keep getting better and better.

I work the phones at B&H and believe me, we have been pushing your books! Its something we can honestly tell our customers that they are going to love it. Just started reading the advanced reader's copy of your next book and I'm hooked and had the put the book down so I won't be crying at work!

Keep up the great work.

Wow. After reading the sample chapter and synopsis of the book, I am HOOKED! I truly need to get this book, that's for sure!

I'm going to go with the characters from Wuthering Heights (the Masterpiece Theatre version I watched last night): Charlotte Riley as Isabelle (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/wutheringheights/characters.html) and for Samuel ... well, I was going to go with the guy who played Heathcliffe - Tom Hardy. Not sure if he's quite right, but then I haven't read the book yet. I would love to! Then I'll come back and let you know if my choice would be the same. :-)

Thanks for the opportunity to win the book, I would be so thrilled!

Hi Jamie!
For Isabelle, how about Kate Beckinsale or Katie Holmes, with hair extensions? they both have expressive faces, and we know Beckinsale can play an action heroine!

For Samuel, how about Orlando Bloom? He's not quite blonde by nature, but they could lighten him up for the movie, lol! Heath Ledger would've been perfect, but unfortunately, we all know he's no longer with us.

I'm going to go over your website in more detail later. :)

Wow Jamie, this was harder than i thought, and believe me I've put some thought into this one. So I've stared at various photos of actors and I can not narrow it down any further so I'm giving you my top two for Isabelle and Samuel. :)

Isabelle: I'm opting for either Jennifer Garner or Jessica Alba.

Samuel: Either Josh Lucas or Eric Dane.

Ok, well I know we have talked about this for our character spotlight but here are some new ideas!

Angie Harmon for Isabelle and although he isn't an actor ( so not sure if I will be disqualified!) can't go past Keith Urban - he even has Samuel's long hair :)

Two of my four boys (Max and Bryce) are still at home, and one is a telecommunications major at BSU majoring in filmmaking. So last night I brought your book out and asked them to help me cast the actors. What a fun conversation that was! (They watch a lot of movies, too.)

They agreed with Cara on Catherine Zeta-Jones, but like Cara, said she had to be younger. So, they, too, mentioned Jessica Alba. I was thinking Scarlett Johannson with dark hair, but I will enter Jessica Alba for Isabelle.

For Samuel Holt, again, they agreed Heath Ledger would have been great, but then discussed Hugh Jackman, Brad Pitt and a few others, but finally decided that Viggo Martinsen might be the one.

This summer Max had attended state police career camp in Vincennes and we had visited the historical places in town. All of the setting was vivid in my mind. Later my husband and I came back to Vincennes on our motorcycle and I'm just so pleased that it is set there because my imagination went wild with the history there!

Thanks for a fun contest because even if I don't win, I have to say it connected me with my 18-yr-old & 20-yr-old! A winner! LOL.

My bad--it's Viggo Mortensen! I was also supposed to tell you that he played Strider in Lord of the Rings.

Cote de Pablo from NCIS kind of looks like I picture Jamie to look, and she's gutsy! And no one but Mel Gibson could play Samuel!

I LOVED this book, and I cannot wait for the next story from your pen!

Love the ideas for actor/actresses so far and am having a blast Googleing them to see what they all look like! Glad you all are having fun with this too!

Crystal, with three boys (two teenagers) I know those moments are great when you get them!! Tell your boys thanks so much for their thoughts! Maybe they can work on the film! :-)

Okay, Freudian slip...I transposed Isabelle's name with our beloved author. Forgive me! Although, Jamie, you don't look look unlike Cote de Pablo yourself! Sorry for the blunder. I'm still sticking with Mel Gibson for Samuel though!

There are a lot of great suggestions, but when I first looked at the book cover I thought Kate Beckensale, but I will agree with the one that said Cote de Pablo I believe she would make a good alternative.

Their were to guys that popped into my head when I thought about this book turning to movie and I have not read it but just the little bit I have heard about it and that would be Clive Owen or Hugh Jackman.

I have not had the chance to read on of your books so I am going to have to get my hands on this one.

I just finished Wind Dancer and loved it. I vote for Orlando Bloom and how about Ashley Judd.

I really don't know a lot of possibiltiies. But it seems like Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta Jones would be a good guess.

This is such a fabulous idea and a great way to allow your fans to explore their creative side. As soon as I head about your request, my mind instantly cast Owen Wilson and Jennifer Love Hewitt. Hopefully your future movie viewers will be able to look past their type-casts and enjoy the wonderful story. These two are so talented, I am sure they will do your book justice. Best of luck to you.

The thought that I'm a beloved author! Kim, you brought tears to my eyes!!

I would love to see Kiera Knightley and Gerard Butler in these roles,
there might be a small problem with accents but i think they both can easily overcome them :)

My sister (Rebecca) also had some great ideas and she wants to enter too!

She agrees that Gerard Butler is a good choice for Samuel but for Isabelle she thinks Evangeline Lily from lost would be perfect!

A couple of poeple have emailed me their entry so I am posting it for them:-)

From Leo Finnerty: "Jessica Alba with light frontier-type makeup looks late teenagerish especially with her petite but athletic build, and her slightly dark complexion would work out well because the French Creole inhabitants of 230 years ago Vincennes would be darker than Anglos because of Mediterranean roots and they spent most of their day outdoors. Also she has done rough and tumble parts before. She can show fierceness.

The male actor should be Zac Efron because the age is right, he is lean like a frontiersman, the women viewers would swoon, he is handsome, and he is popular."

Thanks Leo!

From Pat Thompson:

Samuel - Joaquin Phoenix
Isabelle - Jennifer Love Hewitt
